GoBoatSearch.com, an e-business pure-play B2C & B2B start-up.
The Challenge
This pure-play new entrant was looking to create a virtual marketplace for boating businesses and enthusiasts as an alternative to the typical print-media incumbents.
The goal was to provide consumers and advertisers an effective and efficient virtual boating showroom, ‘showing’ boats for sale or charter, and a comprehensive global directory of marine product and service suppliers. Additionally, the investors and management team wanted a high-level of self-service, personalisation and automation in order to minimise operating costs.
Project 1 - Business Planning & Strategy
Developed high-level business models evolving the initial business concept. Facilitated the SWOT analysis, market and product research sessions. Assisted in the further development of the business plan and strategy.
Project 2 - Process Engineering & Application Design
Conducted business analysis, and designed business and application processes to be ‘as easy as possible’ for all parties – process mantra was: ‘direct goal achievement’. That is, only require users to perform tasks which are essential to the goal they are attempting to achieve. Process and associated data requirements were defined.
Project 3 - Application &Amp; Technical Architecture Design
Dynamic content management and delivery. Separation of UI Layer, Business and Persistence layers. Application structure designed to separate navigational and graphical design aspects for future ‘refreshment’.
In order to control and mitigate the identified project risks, the architecture was designed to provide flexible opportunities to migrate between databases, change web site structure, effect GUI makeovers, and update the presentation layer.
