The Challenge
Josiah Wedgwood & Sons' Information System Development function wanted to standardise and formalise its approach to the systems delivery lifecycle.
Project 1 - Methodology Customisation
We took Business and Systems Consulting's proprietary Information Engineering-based methodology, BSC/Analysis Route (BSC/AR) and BSC/Delivery Route (BSC/DR), and customised it for Wedgwood.
The methodology provides a pragmatic route-map addressing the need to have a 'checklist-based' method rather than the traditional 'cookbook' approach that insists on strict adherence irrespective of the benefits or value gained in performing all the methodology tasks.
BSC/AR and BSC/DR employ Structured Methods, Techniques and Integrated CASE Tools utilised in an interactive workshop environment incorporating high levels of Project and Information Management support.
The methodology also includes Integrated Project Support Environment (IPSE) tools to be used in conjunction with Knowledgeware’s Application Development Workbench (ADW) integrated CASE toolset. The IPSE consists of a set of standards, procedures and tools which provide analysts and designer with a highly effective and productive mechanism for creating and updating project documentation. Simply choose what objects to include and click to create the document.
The resultant BSC/AR and BSC/DR deliverables provides a platform for 4GL development or can be used as the basis for selection and/or evaluation of third-party solutions or tender invitations and responses.
Project 2 - Business Analysis & Business Systems Design Training
Presented residential Business Analysis and Business Systems methodology, techniques and tools training to Wedgwood IT project management and systems development staff.
Course content included Facilitation, Analysis Techniques (including Function/Process Modelling, Data Modelling and Involvement Modelling), ADW training, BSC/Analysis Route (methodology), Project Management and Information Management.
Project 3 - Pilot Project
Wedgwood became a licensed user of BSC/AR and BSC/DR and we also we provided Wedgwood with consulting services in a pilot project to changed and enhanced their Management / Cost Accounting processes and systems.
